Happi-mats consist of small squares of non-woven fibers produced from organically grown hemp with no additives or chemical processing. The mats may be conveniently placed into rodent cages as a supplement to their normal bedding material. They promote natural nesting behaviors as the animals will actively redistribute the material to form a soft nest.
The hemp crop is harvested in the late summer and dried in airflow of 60-70°C before decortication. The loose fiber then passes through a carding machine and is needle punched producing the non-woven structure from which the Happi-mats are cut.
Happi-mats are available in a standard form, which is suitable for autoclaving. They are also available irradiated at a dose of 25kGy.
